Herbs

Herbal traditions in Western and Eastern natural medicines

Herbs, in general, can be viewed as a part or extension of nutrition. Often they can be combined into cooking in various ways, such as in soups, teas, smoothies etc. Herbs add a more targeted purpose to food and complement thus the healing properties of food.

As Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”, this effect will be enhanced by using the appropriate kind of herbs and spices.

Food is medicine and medicine is food

Herbs are therefore “special foods” with therapeutic properties. There is some energy medicine aspect to herbs as well, as their effect on the individual person is not only dependant on the therapeutic action of the herb but also on each person’s constitution and energetic state. The energetic classification of herbs has remained particularly intact in the herbal systems of India and China
